RIOTERS SHOT DEAD
CROWD OF ANGRY LABOURERS BUSINESS HOUSES STORMED KINGSTOWN (St. Vincent), .October 21. (Received Oct. 22, at 5.5 p.m.) Three rioters were shot dead and several wounded on Monday night as a crowd of angry labourers armed with clubs and stones stormed business houses. UNRULY MOB OF NEGROES KINGSTOWN, October 21. (Received Oct. 22, at 9 p.m.) Hundreds of negroes surged through the streets of the capital after threaten ing disorders all day. A number of stores were looted and cars owned by the Administrator and other Government officials were wrecked before an armi 1 guard dispersed the rioters There is no assurance that the trouble is over and guards have been placed on duty for the night. All business is suspended. In the afternoon an unr ly mob surrounded the Administrator outside the courthouse, demanding a hearing on workmen's problems. Quiet was restored after the Administrator promised to receive representatives on the questions of minimum wag-s, workmen's compensation, and Customs duties. Meanwhile the guard arouni the building was doubled, and the crowd broke n without violence, but before many hours they gathered again, the ranks being swelled by labourers from outlying plantations. One or two minor from street incidents were enough to sta"t the whole crowd rampagiug. The largest business houses and stores were the first to be attacked, much food, clothing, and other stock being carried off. As the rioters went from place to place they made side excursions in search of ifticial cars for smashing. Not until the ranks were broken by police fire did ihe disorders cease.
