TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel.

A Popular Pick Graham Direct appears to be the popular pick for the Oamarii Jubilee Handicap. At the Barrier Mr F. Legat, of Winton, will act as starter at the Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting. Native Chief "Hope springs eternal." Native Chief figures amongst the acceptors for two races at the Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting. Tempest Tempest is going along well in his work, and will continue to make a rather useful sort to carry Mr G. J. Barton's colours.

Voyage Ended It is verv doubtful if Huon Voyage would stand another preparation, and probably the last has been seen of bim on the track. Quality plus Quantity The excellent stakes attached to the Oamaru Trotting Club's programme naturally drew fields of the best quality as well as numerical strength to supply the basis of good betting. Indianapolis Indianapolis can handle himself on a small track as he has proved by winning at Oamaru, but he would hold a much better chance of winning again on the same course if racing on the flat race track, which would give him more opportunity to gather and hold his speed. The same remark applies to Roi l'Or, as extreme speed requires plenty of room to produce. War Buoy War Buoy, who is on the front in the Weston Handicap at Oamaru, holds one of the most remarkable records ever identified with light-harness racing in New Zealand. As a three-year-old he had four starts, four wins. Last season he went to the post for 10 races and won eight times and scored places in the others. He was second in the Porbury Handicap to Tempest and second to the same horse in the King George Handicap at =Addington, when they went 4min 25 3-ssec and, 4min 25 4-ssec. War Buoy finished the season bv winning at Forbury Park in 4min 25 2-ssec. He has won in 2min 40sec, and Indianapolis has to give awav 60 yards and Roi l'Or 84 yards. Indianapolis would have to go 2min 4sec or bettor and Roi l'Or 2miu 3see or better to get upsides with the front lot and then have enough in reserve to go on and win.

Conspicuous Considerable interest was taken in the Australian horses, Evicus and Emilhw Way, when they stepped on to the Addington course to do their work on Saturday morning. Evicus had a red bridle and red boots, and Emilius Way wore a white bridle and white boots. Both pacers are- black in colour, and > their coloured gear made them conspicuous. Evicus is a smooth-actioned pacer, and tiie more attractive mover of the pair. Emilius Way is a straight-legged pacer, but he has complete control of his gait, and can go very fast without the assistance of the hopples. While Evicus lias made most friends (says an exchange), several good judges have taken a fancy to Emilius Way, and they are of the opinion that he is a real stayer and the better horse of the two for a journey. Rey Spec Key Spec's trial at Addington on Saturdav pleased track watchers immensely, and several have made up their minds to support the gelding in the Jubilee Handicap at Oamaru. Bey Spec was accompanied by Vesuvius and Agile, the journey being two miles, which Key Spec covered in 4min 20 3-ssec. They began from a moving start, Key Spec conceding his companions three seconds. He was up with them before a mile had been completed, and travelled quite four sulky widths out from the inside rail for the remainder of the trip. The extra ground he covered made his trial a particularly good one. Key Spec has survived a thorough preparation, and his track efforts (savs "Arjrus") show that he is capable of improving on his previous best performances. He will have many friends at Oamaru.
