Mr T. 0, Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, arrived from Wellington yesterday afternoon. Mr S. E. Griffiths, South Island manager of the Dominion Life Assurance Company, left for Wellington by the express for the north yesterday morning. Mr F. Waite, M.L.C., Mr T. O'Byrne, M.L.C., and Mr D. M'Dougall, M.P., were throrgh passengers by the express for the north yesterday morning, en route to Wellington. The Rev. D. J. A. Shaw, of Hastings, has been nominated by the Hawke's Bay Piesbytery as moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for the year 1930-37. A Press Association cable message from Ijondon states that Lord Snell has been appointed leader of the Labour peers in tuccession to Lord Ponsonby. Mr N. M. Cameron, of the Sudan United Mission, who has been visiting Dunedin on furlough, left yesterday morning on the first stage of his journey to Edinburgh, where he will be engaged in further studies for a year, before returning to the mission field. Colonel G, Davis, of New York, who has been visiting New Zealand in connection with a special Salvation Army campaign, was a through passenger from Invercargill by the express yesterday morning. After conducting missions in the North Island he will leave on November 16 from Auckland for the United States. The appointment of Miss E. S. Brown, assistant sub-matron at the Dunedin Hospital, as second assistant to the lady superintendent at the Auckland Hospital was made by the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday.. The members of the Government Railways Board (Sir James Gunson, actingchairman, Messrs G. W. Reid, D. Reese, and E. Newman), accompanied by the general manager, Mr G. H. Mackley, arrived in Dunedin from the north yesterday afternoon, in the course of a visit of' inspection of the South Island railvay system. The board, on its arrival, heard representations by several deputations from local bodies. This morning it will leave for Invercargill, and will travel to Te Anau in the afternoon, proceeding to-morrow to the head of the road through the Eclinton and Hollyford Valleys on the new road to Milford. The return will be mada via Manapouri, Rae's Junction and Roxburgh, to Dunedin and Christchurch.
