PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
PAN-AMERICAN AIRWAYS OFFER UNDER CONSIDERATION (From Oub Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 22. Although there appears to be a <ksire by Pan-American Airways for an immediate decision regarding its application to include New Zealand in its proposed transpacific air service, the Government is determined to examine every aspect of the matter before granting permission. The Minister of Finance, Mr Coates, who has been handling the negotiations on behalf of the Government, again declined to-day to. make any official statement on the subject, but in the course of conversation it wajs learned that New Zealand had felt bound to view the whole proposal from an Empire standpoint. Mr Coates added that the Government was making every effort to expedite matters and that already several of the early difficulties had been removed. He was still awaiting replies on certain points from the Canadian and Australian Governments. The Minister said the Government could not be stampeded into entering into a contract without full consideration. He did not view seriously the implied threat to remove the service elsewhere if the Government did not come to a rapid decision.
