A man from Van Reehan (Natal), who had had a good day’s decided to keep a few barbel alive in a bath in his backyard, so that they could be used as required. One was an exceptionally large one, of which he was very proud. It suddenly disappeared. The next day, when the man went to the river to fish again, he overtook r barbel wriggling slowly along the ground, 200 yards from his house. When he picked it up he found the marks of his own hook in its lacerated jaws.
