Misses Dorothy Andrus and Caroline Babcock reached the finals of the Women’s United States Lawn Tennis Doubles by defeating Misses James and. Stammers o—3,0 —3, B—6.8 —6. Shields and Parker reached the semi-finals by defeating Menzel and Maier 3 —6. 6—3, 9—7. THE WOMEN'S DOUBLES BROOKLINE, August 23. (Received August 25, at 11 p.m.) Miss Helen Jacobs and Mrs PalfreyFabyan defeated Misses Lyle and Dearman, B—6, 6—4. SOUTH AFRICA v. AUSTRALIA JOHANNESBURG, August 24. (Received August 25, at 9 p.m.) The first lawn tennis test, comprising two Singles and one Doubles each today and on Monday, began in bright, breezy weather. In the Singles Quist defeated Kirby, 6 —Si 6—3, and Crawford defeated Farquharson, 6—3, 5 —7, 7—5. In the Doubles Crawford and Quist defeated Farquharson and Musgrove, 6—3, 6—4, 4—6, 6—4. The match between Crawford and Farquharson was the most thrilling seen in South Africa for years. Both played tennis of a high standard. Farquharson was stronger at the net, but Crawford’s bard driving prevailed. NORTH OF ENGLAND TITLES LONDON, August 24. (Received August 25, at 9 p.m.) At Scarborough of England lawn tennis championship finals resulted as follows: — Men’s Doubles—Wilde and Butler defeated Lyttelton-Rogers and Stedman, 6—B, 6—3, 6—4, 7—5. Men’s Singles.—Stedman defeated Rogers, 6—2, 6—3. Rogers was very nervous and lacked his usual brisk style.
