SOCIAL CREDIT REGIME
ALBERTA’S MONETARY PLANS PROPOSED ISSUE OF SCRIP OTTAWA, August 23. The Government intends to raise no opposition to the monetary plans of the new social credit regime in Alberta. The proposed issue of scrip is illegal under the Bank Act, but no action will be
taken unless it conflicts with the business of other provinces. Social credit makes necessary a large foreign exchange fund for Alberta, but the Bank of Canada will only provide it in a regular way by payment in Canadian legal tender. CHURCHMAN AS SUPPORTER OTTAWA, August 24. (Received August 25, at 5.5 p.m.) A proposed Canadian tour by the Dean of Canterbury on behrlf of Major Douglas is likely to prove unpopular, except in Alberta.
