PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY
CONSERVING ENERGY “Concentrate and Conserve Your Forces ” was the subject taken for discussion at last week’s meeting of the Dunedin Practical Psychology Chjb. Various methods of conserving energy were outlined, and it was emphasised that the average person generated energy several times greater than was required for all physical and mental effort. It was almost impossible to be sick if the body was full of energy, as sickness resulted from lack of vital force. This lack came from waste such as was encouraged by excessive emotion, nervousness, fear, auger, suspense, etc. Energy accumulated would bring higher attainments and eyas tile secret of success. Relaxation of mind and body was very important, and a certain time each day should be set aside for this purpose. A calm but powerful attitude of mind should be cultivated as a safeguard against restlessness and agitation, and was considered the most important step in conserving the energies. When attempting to increase the power of concentration this should be clone by arousing interest in the particular direction required and not by the exercise of the will. In fact, the misuse of the will often rendered concentration impossible.
