UNUSUAL TAX
CUSTOMS DUTY ON ASHES. After being sent nearly 6000 miles by post from Vancouver, a small casket containing the ashes of M'lver Forbes Monson MTver Campbell was placed in the family burial ground at Ballochoyle, Holy Loch, Argyllshire, recently. Campbell died in Vancouver in JlMi and expressed a wish to be cremated. He requested an old friend to place tlie ashes in the family vault. There were certain legal difficulties to be overcome, but these were finally surmounted, and the ashes sent by post at the cost of a few shillings. The Customs, however, imposed a duty of £2 10a.
