TROTTING NOTES

By SENTINiX. Worked in Saddle

Lady Hannah is pacing well in saddle, and she is becoming contented. She is a capable novice, and a change of work from harness to saddle is agreeing with her. Casanova Kept Going With the exception of Casanova, the Durbar Lodge horses have been enjoying a rest from serious work. Casanova has been kept going, and the colt gives decided promise of settling down in the new season. A Great Stayer Explosion has wintered well, and he lias thrived as the result of the patient manner in which he has been trained by R. D. Kennerley. Explosion has improved a good deal since he came to Addington. He is a great stayer, and is seen at his best over two-mile journeys. \ A Likely Improver Golden Cross has freshened up apEreciably during the Winter vacation, and e is bowling along in his training work as if he likes it. Golden Cross has raced generously during this season, and, having youth on his side, he is apt to imon any of his previous showings. Qualifying for the Cup War Buoy, Tempest, and Taxpayer are at present on the 4min 28sec line, and unless a swinging limit is used for the Trotting Cup each will have to win twice at Addington in August to get a 4mm 26sec qualification. 'With Indianapolis already in, there may be no attempt made to qualify Tempest. War.. Buoy's trainer is said to be in no hurry with his young champion, but Taxpayer is sure to be a candidate for inclusion in the big race. Wild Guy, on 4min 27sec, is in a more favourable position. / , High-class Trotter

Norma Bingen is reported to be going along well in D. Teahen's care at Pleasant Point, near Timaru, and, judging by her 'season's performances, she is likely to be at a short price in any race in which she starts in the next few months. The manner of her trotting suggests, however, that she must be allowed to do her work in her own way, and, a free mover, is doing her best when she appears to be going easily. She is one of the longest striders amongst the trotters in the Dominion at present, and, while she has yet to prove herself a genuine stayer, she may develop stamina with racing experience.

Promising Performers Two maiden performances registered on the country trotting circuit which attracted snecial notice were those of the trotter Great Admiral; at Te Aroha, and the two-year-old pacer Ken Worthy, at Hamilton. Having his first race, and handicapped on 3min 49sec, Great Admiral defeated a useful field in 3min 29sec, a remarkable time effort on the Te Aroha track. That there was merit in the performance, apart from the fast time, has been proved since, as Great Admiral has won three more trotting races on four starts, and he is likely to continue his run next season. When Ken Worthy defeated a field of 16 older and more experienced horses at Hamilton he was having only his second race, and the time, 2min 53 l-ssec from 3min ssec, stamped him as good. The resoluteness with which the Prank Worthy two-year-old did his task, espacially in the final stages, when cutting down several opponents, was the chief characteristic of his success, and there is no doubt that he will make good as a three-year-old. Ken Worthy is bred the right way, his sire being one of the great Axworthy line, while, his dam is by the Peter the Great horse Peter Moko. f
