Wednesday, July 24. (Before Mi J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. Roy Gordon Capel was-charged with at Eitham, on April 12, obtaining from Arthur White Packard the sum of £5 17s 8d by falsely representing that the firm of Neil, Stewart and Co., of Auckland, had entered into a contract to advertise their business in the Eitham Argus and Inglewood Times.. Chief Detective Young said that he had found that the case could not be dealt with in Dunedin. He would ask for a remand to New Plymouth on July 31. The accused said that he was innocent of the charge brought Against him and that that would be proved later on. Bail was allowed at fSO in the name of the accused and one surety of £SO. A SERIOUS CHARGE. Albert John Alexander Sanderson was charged with, at Waikouaiti, on May 18, indecently assaulting a girl 13 years of age. Mr G. T. Baylee appeared for the accused. The magistrate ordered the court tc be cleared and made an order prohibiting the publication of the evidence.— After lengthy evidence the magistrate said that there was no necessity tor Mr Baylee to address the court. A serious charge had been made and there must be some corroboration. The magistrate pointed out that the girl and her mother had given contradictory erktencc and that there was nothing to support the former's evidence on the main issue. It could not be said that a prima facie case had been made out. There was no case for the accused to answer, and be would be discharged.
