LABOUR LEADER'S SEAT A WOMAN OPPONENT (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 24. The Democrat Party has decided to nominate Mrs .Suzanne Mabel Milne as the party's candidate for the Auckland West seat. Mr H. C. Baulf, the party's Auckland representative, said to-day that Mrs Milne was a prominent worker in Women's Institute circles and had been a foundation member of the Auckland centre. She was one of the lecturers on the panel of the institute and was well known throughout the Auckland province. For 18 months she had spoken from IYA on health topics. Mrs Milne was born in New Zealand and was educated in Dunedin. The sitting member for Auckland West is Mr M. J. Savage, Leader of the Opposition. BAY OF PLENTY SEAT THE GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE ( Per United Press Association i GISBORNE, July 24. A, meeting of the supporters of the National Government was held at Matawai to-day to select a candidate to represent the party for the Bay of Plenty. Mr K. S. Williams having intimated some time ago that he did not intend to stand owing to ill-health. All the areas in the widely-spread constituency ■were represented at the meeting, and after discussion Mr J. T. Merry, oi Opotiki, was unanimously selected as the official National candidate. The delegates present also passed a resolution expressing sincere appreciation of Mr K. S. Williams for long service as member for the Bay of Plenty and sincere wishes for his early recovery.

AWARUA ELECTORATE NATIONAL POLITICAL FEDERATION BRANCH TO BE FORMED (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 24. The Minister of Industries and Com-' merce, Mr R. Masters, who visited Winton to-day, was met by a large gathering of representatives from all parts of the Awarua electorate, who expressed, their desire to form an organisation to further the candidature of the National candidate for that electorate. At the conclusion of the meeting the following resolution was carried unanimously:— " That this meeting composed of. representatives of the Reform and United parties in the Awarua electorate wholeheartedly agrees with the decision of the two parties to form a National Government and for the amalgamation of the two organisations for the purpose of electing National candidates at the forth coming election. We further pledge ourselves to do everything possible to secure the return of the selected National candidate for this electorate, and to bring this about we undertake to form a local branch of the National Political Federation."
