The woman who stowed away on the Marama from Wellington to Sydney was brought back by the Marama to-day. She was not placed under arrest, and it is understood that no charge will be laid. When the steamer Gabriella left Greymouth for Melbourne early this morning she carried two men not on the articles. Their presence was soon discovered and the vessel put back to the roadstead while a launch with the police on board took the stowaways off. George James Shaw, aged 23. and Patrick Murphy, aged 24. pleaded guilty in the court to a charge of secreting themselves on the steamer and were each fined £3. in default seven days’ imprisonment.
