THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM I BEATEN BY NEW SOUTH WALES (United Press Association) „ (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 23. (Received -July 23, at 11.45 p.m.) In the all-Australia hockey tournament to-day New South Wales avenged last week’s defeat in Sydney by defeating New Zealand by 4 goals to l.f It was New Zealand’s first match in the tournament. New South Wales showed superior tactics, particularly in the manner in which they countered the vigorous speed of Miss M'Kenzie. The strength of the New South Wales backs gave the New Zealand forwards no chance to display their usual strong combination.

The half time score was 3 to nil. Miss Dahlberg scored for New Zealand.

Miss Drake, Mrs Donald and Misses Mortimer and Hansen were omitted from the New Zealand team. Victoria defeated South’ Australia by 4 goals to 2.
