GLIDING IN BRITAIN

A GOVERNMENT GRANT (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 22. (Received July 23, at 5.5 p.m.) The Under-eecretary for Air (Sir Philip Sassoon) announced in the House of Commons that the Government had decided to make an annual grant of

£SOOO for five years for the assistance of gliding. A scheme for the allocation of grants for the development of gliding had been submitted by the British Gliding Association and had been accepted in principle. A WORLD’S RECORD LONDON, July 23. (Received July 23, at 11.45 p.m.) The Daily Telegraph’s Berlin correspondent says Ludwig Hoffman set a world record by gliding 305 miles. He beat the record established by Dittmars on July 29, 1934.
