RUGBY FOOTBALL

UNIVERSITY TEAM FOR JAPAN PROSPECTS CONSIDERED BRIGHT. (Per United Press Association> CHRISTCHURCH, July 23. The prospect of a tour of Japan by the New Zealand University Rugby side is made probable by the receipt of advice by Ur Hight, rector of Canterbury College, that the Japanese authorities would welcome such a visit. Dr Hight has received a cablegram from Kawasa, recently a student at Canterbury Agricultural College, stating that a visiß would be welcome, and the side should be the strongest available, while the sender would do all he could to further the arrangements. The proposal had been in the minds of students in New Zealand since an Australian universities team toured Japan and found that the Japanese played an excellent game, and were hard opponents to defeat. , As yet no definite arrangements have been made.
