MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Red Cross Society was attended by the Rev. V G. Bryan King (in the chair), Mesdames Stanley Batchelor, Sydney Neill, Misses Rattray, Graham. Messrs A. N. A letter was received from the Patriotic Association enclosing a special grant for a needy patient at present receiving treatment in the home. —The letter was received with thanks. . An application for general assistance was received from an ex-serviceman who is at present in the country recuperating. -—lt was resolved to refer the application to the Patriotic Association. A letter was received from the North Otago Soldiers’ Aid Association concerning a patient in the Red Cross Home. In view of the man’s circumstances it had pleasure in authorising the supply of some necessary clothing.—The letter was received with thanks. _ A letter was received from the tmre Returned Soldiers’ Association regarding an ex-soldier who needed rest and treatment. —Mr King reported that the n in! } had since come up to Dunedin, and had been admitted to the Red Cross Home. —This action was approved. Dr Fergus wrote recommending that a soldier patient from the country be admitted to the home.—Approved. A letter was received from the Hospital Board sincerely thanking the society for the continued visits of its representatives to the Dunedin and Wakari Hospitals, and for the regular supply of little gifts for the soldier patients.—Received. A letter was received from the Dunedin Manufacturers' Association advising that it had purchased from the Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment League a copy of a portrait of his Majesty the King, which they had resolved to present to the Red Cross Home as a token of the interest which the manufacturers of Dunedin took in the work among the disabled returned soldiers. —Members expressed pleasure at the association’s action, and the secretary was asked to write conveying the committee's thanks and sincere appreciation. It was also resolved to invite the president and secretary to visit the home and there make the presentation in person. ... , A letter was received from the Otago Womens Club expressing appreciation of the society’s message _ of congratulation upon the club’s attaining its twenty-first anniversary. Mrs Neill and Miss Graham furnished satisfactory report? on behalf of the hospital visitors. There were 19 men at Dunedin Hospital and five at Wakari. The matron at Montecillo reported a further increase in the number of patients

receiving treatment. During the month four men were discharged, but seven had been admitted. There were now 23 men in the home. She was pleased to state that everything in and about the home was going along smoothly and satisfacRegarding finance, Mr King said that members would be pleased to note that on the month’s operations receipts showed up well against disbursements. On the motion of Mr Smeaton, seconded by Mr Haggitt, certain expenditure in 1 connection with the home was authorised.
