JUBILEE YEAR FAIR

WORLD FELLOWSHIP FUNDS The Jubilee Year Fair, conducted under the auspices of the Young Women’s Christian Association in aid of the World Fellowship Funds, was opened yesterday afternoon in the presence of a _ large gathering of friends of the association. The profits from the bazaar will be used to support the World Fellowship secretary in China (Miss Nessie Moncrieff). Bright decorations and _ the well-laden stalls converted the social hall into a spectacular scene, and the stall-holders were kept busy throughout the afternoon and evening. The stalls are under the control of the following: Cakes Membership Committee, Mrs P. L. Ritchie (convener) ; second-hand books, Mesdames C. M. Begg and F. B. Adams; work —World Fellowship Committee- and senior activities, Mrs J. Malcolm and Miss L. Sullivan (conveners); sweets —Health and Recreational Committees, Mrs M. E. Johnson (convener) ; knitted goods— Hostel Committee, Mrs E. Ellis (convener) ; gifts —Girls’ Work Committee, Mrs T. Somerville (convener); flowers and produce —Women’s Auxiliary, Mrs H. Price (convener) ; afternoon tea— House and Cafeteria Committees, Mrs J. M. Samson (convener).

Miss Downie Stewart, who officially opened the bazaar, congratulated the Dunedin branch of the Y.W.C.A. on the excellent work it had done in the city. During the last four years, she said, she had travelled extensively, and had had opportunities of seeing something of the work being done in other parts of the world, but she was pleased to say that the work in Dunedin compared very favourably with that in some of the larger and more wealthy centres. The Dunedin branch of the_ Y.W.C.A. was the first' to be founded in the southern hemisphere —a fact of which they ought to bo very proud. She hoped that the fair would be an outstanding success, so that the organisers and stall-holders would be well repaid for their efforts. In the evening an address was given by Miss F. A. Sakcr, principal of the Brahrao Girls’ School in Calcutta, and the Hostel Glee Club rendered several items. The fair will be continued this afternoon and evening.
