The fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of the Leith was held on Wednesday last, when there was a large attendance ol members, C.R. Pro. J. B. Watt occupying the chair. A committee was set up to arrange for the celebrating of the seventyfirst anniversary of the founding of the court. The.invitation from Court Bruce, Milton, to be represented at its anniversary ball next month was accepted. P.C.R.’s BrosvP. A. Holdaway and W. A Nelson were nominated as jttdges of the next ritual competition. The auditors, Bros. Vercoe and Cockburn, submitted the balance sheet and report on the past half-year’s working. The statements showed that the membership was 914, and that the sick allowances had been a little heavier than usual, end amounted to £442 16s 8d for the period. The funds were all in a healthy .position. The report was adopted, and the auditors were thanked for their services. The C.R. save the toast of “ The Visitors,” which was responded i.o by P.C.R. Bro. S. Bretell on behalf of Court Enterprise. The C.R. also extended a welcome to P.D.C.R. Bro. 11. C. Williamson, who returned thanks. During the meeting one member was accepted by -transfer, and three new members were admitted in the customary/ manner.

At the fortnightly meeting of Court Bruce. Milton, there was a good attendance of members, P.C.R. Bro. W. Kennedy presiding. The secretary was instructed to convey the sympathy of the court to P.C.R. Bro. E. Hollick in his lengthy illness, and to express the hope that he would soon recover and enjoy better health. Bro. Hollick was secretary of the court for several years. An invitation was accepted from Court Molyneux to attend its twenty-third annual social at Balclutha. A copy of the proceedings of the fiftli annual meeting of the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies, held at Wellington, was received. The United Otago District of the A-O.F. was represented at this meeting by the district secretary, Bro. J. K. Macfie, and P.D.C.R. Bro. R. S. Vercoe. It was reported that arrangements were well in hand for the court’s seventieth anniversary, to he held early next month. At the conclusion of the meeting members of the Milton Orchestral Society were entertained a‘t a social evening, when an enjoyable time was spent in playing cards and dancing. The first portion of the evening took the form of a progressive euchre tournament between members and the orchestra, in which the Foresters proved the winners by 21 games to 17. During the supper interval, the Rev. J. A. Kempthorno thanked Court Bruce for the complimentary evening, to which C.S. Bro. M. E. Paul returned thanks. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mr W. Taylor and Bro. J. G. Smith, and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Bro. E. O’Shaughnessy.
