The famous mosaics of St. Mark's Cathedral at Venice, with scenes of the Apocalypse, completed at the end of the sixteenth century by the brothers Zuccato, are to be seen once more. They had been concealed for 28 years by scaffolding round the golden dome. This has now been removed. Repair work was begun in 1906, but was delayed by the Great War, when sandbags and wooden scaffolding were put in to protect the valuable works of art. dating in some cases from the twelfth century, from danger of enemy air attack.
