PRIESTS IN GERMANY GENERAL GOERING DEFIED (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, July 22. (Received July 22, at 9 p.m.) The News-Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent says: “ The Catholic Church has defied General Goering, and hundreds of priests are risking prison by reading, though secret police are present at many churches, an anti-Nazi declaration from Osservatore Eomano accusing the German authorities of infringing the concordat and characterising as absurd Dr Frick’s statement that Catholics must obey all laws. The Osservatore Eomano has also protested against attacks on Catholic youth and Catholic workers’ organisations.”
