WOMEN'S DIVISION N.2. FARMERS’ UNION

Reports of meetings of Drancaes are requested, but the; should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be assured.

The Momona branch of the W.D.F.U. met at the residence of Mr P. G. Ford to witness a demonstration on “ pruning of roses" by Mr Cousins, of Mosgiel, on Thursday afternoon. The competition was won by Mrs Wilson. Mesdames Davidson, Gillespie, Lindsay, and Ford were the hostesses.

The Tahatika branch met in the hall on July 17. Miss Roulston gave a demonstration on " tatting.” Mrs M'Artliur and Miss M. Roulston were joint winners of the cpmpetition. The roll call was “ Simple remedies for burns.”

The Ettrick branch diet on the 17th. A feature of the meeting was a one-act play, “The Annual Jumble Sale,” given by Mesdames Colville, Gibson, Norman, Hainsworth, and Todd. A bring and buy sale augmented the funds considerably. The roll call was “A cure for a cold.” Mesdames Kelly and Hollow were hostesses.

The Palmerston branch met in the Centra] Hotel on Friday, Mrs Walker (vice-president) presiding. The roll call was “Verse of poetry learnt at school.” The programme was arranged by Misses Twaddle and Sheat, as follows:—A reading was given by Mrs Wedge; a compe-

tition, “jumbled fruits,” won by Miss Cameron; a play-readin", "St. Patricks Day,” was given by Mesdames Rorton and Wedge and Misses Cameron, M'Gregor, Twaddle, and Sheat. Members from the Farmers’ Union meeting arrived later and were entertained at supper, Mr Wedge (president) afterwards returning thanks. Hostesses were Mesdames M'Gregor, Guthrie, Ballingall, and Walker.

The July meeting of the Poolburn-Moa Creek branch was presided over by Mrs J. H. Jones. The motto was, “Do your work as well as you can, and be kind.” The roll call was “A cure for a cold. The president gave a report of the provincial conference. A darning competition was won by Mrs J. Rae, and a competition for the best three pikelets by Mies M. Dundaes. The members indulged in a game of skill, which was won by Mrs J. H. Jones. The sale table proved a success. The hostesses were Mrs S. Wragge and Misses J'. MTntcsh and N. Wragge.

The Owaka branch met in the Oddfellow’s Hall,, presided over by the president (Mrs J. Holland). The roll call was.

“ Earliest Recollections.” A demonstration was given by Mrs Parker on “ Singer Machine,” showing the many uses its accessories could be put to.

The Bannockburn branch met on Tuesday night. A successful dance had been held during the previous week, so considerable time was taken with business affairs. The roll call was, “ Sing, Say, or Whistle.” The hostesses were Mesdames Ritchie, Crombie, Anderson, and Smith.

A happy little function took place in Mrs Jones’s dining room at Oinakau on Friday, when Mrs Charles, president, and Mrs Wilson, secretary, of the local branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union were entertained by their_ fellowraembera on the occasion of their joint birthdays. The afternoon was a musical one and items were given by Mrs Naylor Miss MacKny, Miss Nancy Scoular, and Miss Jess Clouston. On entering the room the two guests were presented by little Lesley Scoular with bouquets of spring flowers. Mrs Scoular, who was hostess for the afternoon, presented Mrs Charles and Mrs Wilson with a silver table napkin ring suitably inscribed. Both ladies suitably repljed. A special feature of the tea was a birthday cake baked and given by Mrs Jones. A musical competition was won by Mrs Harvey.
