Mrs L. F. M'Cormack, accompanied by Miss Mary M'Cormack, is at present on a visit to Timaru, where she is the guest of Mrs J. A. Shea.

Mr and Mrs W* F. Edmond, accompanied by the latter’s niece, Mrs W. L. Cunningham, of Castle Downs Station, Southland, will leave to-morrow for Auckland to join the Monterey on a holiday visit to Honolulu, where they intend to spend about three weeks.

* * The Y.W.C.A. jubilee year fair, which is to be held in the Y.W.C.A. hall this afternoon and evening and to-morrow afternoon and evening, promises to be well worth attending. There will be refreshments and competitions and, in the evening, an enjoyable programme. The price of admission (sixpence) is redeemable for the first purchase made in the afternoon.

Miss Crowe’s address to the Waipahi Junior Homemakers’ Club this month was of great interest to every girl who attended the club. It dealt with the importance of being well-groomed. Even although one’s clothes are not of the expensive type, they can look effective if pressed and neatly mended. Two enjoyable games brought the pleasant after-, noon to a close.

-There is an art in being well groomed and personal hygiene is all important. Exercises help hips and waistline. Active games provide enjoyable entertainment at a party. All this and much more were learnt by the Clinton Junior Homemakers’ Club, when it met in the Anglican Sunday School Hall on Wednesday. The discussion, led by Miss Crowe, of the Association for Country Education, who is very popular with the girls, was much enjoyed by the 11 members present.

Dean Cruickshank. addressing the Dunedin Business and Professional Women’s Club last evening, cave a delightful talk on “ The Art of Making a Public Speech.” hia words being listened to with much interest by the 114 members present. Miss Hayward, on the suggestion of the president, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker at the close of his talk, after which Miss Evelyn Ryan read an article on “ International Aircraft.”

** * • A large number of members of the Otago Women’s Club, who are interested in the study of psychology, met yesterday afternoon at the club, where a psychology circle was formed and a committee elected, comprising the following:— Chairwoman, Miss Mercer; vice-chair-woman, Miss Vida Reynolds: secretary, Mrs R. S. Black; members of committee —Mesdames J. W. Stewart, J. G. Briggs, Wallace Watson, and R. S. Anderson. Members are looking forward to some interesting talks on " Practical Psychology.” Mrs Mackie Begg was in the chair.

Tlia Auckland Club held a second trump whist drive at the Vedic Cafe on Thursday last, when members and friends spent an_ enjoyable evening of play together. Prizes were won by Mrs Sinton. Mr Griffin, Mrs Griffin, and Mr Patrick. A dainty supper followed and in response to a Special request, Mrs Kirk-Burnnand contributed a charming vocal solo. The president (Mr E, Griffin) welcomed those present, his announcement that a similar evening would be held later being received with applause. He also extended the club's invitation to all interested to attend the regular monthly socials. Those present included;—Mr and Mrs E. Griffin, Mr and Mrs H. Osborne, Mr and Mrs J. Sinton, Mr and Mrs H. Ashworth, Mr and Mrs E. R. Rout, Mr and Mrs M'Cormack, Mr and Mrs A. Fraser, Mr and Mrs H. Powell, Mr and Mrs Ball, Mr and Mrs Patrick, Mr and Mrs M'Carthy, Mr and Mrs Davidson, Mesdames Kh'k-Burnnand, Hazard, Tregear, Hewitt, Thompson, Dunn, Knowles. Mercer, Wilson, Pyke, Shaw, Misses R. Phillips, Forsythe, Young, Park, (3), Mr D, R. Dennis.
