GORE Gore Poultry Show Record entries were received for the Gore Poultry Club’s eighth annual show, which was held in the Town Hall on Friday and Saturday. The organisation was the most efficient in the club’s history, enabling the official portion of the show to be completed at an early hour.

Sheep Stealing Alleged At the Gore Magistrate's Court, before Mr W. 11. Freeman, S.M., the hearing of a number of charges of sheep stealing agftinst John Slater Shaw, James Slater Shaw, and John George Shaw, of Balfour, was heard throughout Friday and Friday evening. After the conclusion of the evidence both counsel addressed the court, and the magistrate reserved his judgment.

Competition Winners By defeating Country Pirates on the Gore. Show Grounds on Saturday, Albion has been declared the winner of the Eastern-Northern _ Saturday competition. Pirates were leading by 6 points to 3 at half time, but Albion added eight points to their score in the second spell. Hamilton and R. Sutherland (Country Pirates) were the most outstanding backs on the field.

Obituary The death occurred recently of Mrs Jane Ballantyne at the residence of her son-in-law’, Mr John Byars, of “Logan Braes,” Waikaka. The deceased lady was born in Melbourne on December 23, 1854, and with her parents came to Dunedin in 1861. She married the late Mr John Ballantyne at Dunedin in January, 1874. After 15 years in the Waikaka district, her late husband had the misfortune to lose his eyesight, and this placed the responsibility of bringing up a_young family of eight entirely on Mrs Ballantyne’s shoulders. After the death of her husband five years ago Mrs Ballantyne gradually broke down in health, and thi® resulted in her being more or less an invalid until three weeks ago, when a serious illness resulted in her cleatlu Of the family of eight, she is survived by one daughter and five sons—-Mrs J. W. Byars and Messrs Arthur and John (Waikaka), James (Gisborne), _ Alexander (Oamaru), and Albert (Mosgiel). There are 24 grandchildren and' four greatgrandchildren. One brothel - , Mr J. M'Kay (Dunrobin) and also three sisters survive—Mrs Peter (Wellington), Mrs C.. Batkin (Auckland), and, Mrs C. H. Biss (Christchurch).

Presentation Social

On Saturday night last local footballers and cricketers gathered in the Pembroke Hall to make a presentation to Mr Stewart Faulks, who is shortly to be married. A’short toast list was honoured and several musical ,and humorous items were presented. During an interlude in the proceedings Mr Con. Gawn took the opportunity to present Mr Faulks with a handsome fire shield, and to convey to him the club’s best wishes for a happy married life. Mr Faulks suitably replied.

Angling Club The Wanaka Angling Club is now in possession of three fish traps—the mam one in the Pembroke Creek, the small one in the Glendhu Creek, and the new one, recently constructed by the club’s members. in the Motatapu River. The total number of efffca gathered from these traps and placed in the hatchery, up to the present time, is 445.000. of which 335.000 were taken from the Pembroke trap. 5000 from the Glendhu trap and 106.000 from the Motatapu trap.

ROXBURGH / Golf The semi-finals of the men’s senior and junior golf championships were played on Saturday. In the former, Prisk and Lamb, both playing excellent golf, fought out the issue until the nineteenth hole, which Prisk won with an excellent putt. The ladies played the second qualifying round of their championship concurrently with a medal match. A men s bogey match was also played. Rugby Football The Stevenson Cup match —a benefit game played annually between the premier team and the runners-up—was played at Miller’s Flat on Saturday between Miller’s Flat and Coal Creek. The game resulted in an easy win for the former by 16 points to 3. The Weather
