ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Football Association was held last evening, the president, Mr A. Sharp, being in the chair. The secretary of the Canterbury Football Association advised that the date (August 3) suggested for the visit of an Otago team to Christchurch was not suitable. Otago’s invitation for a return match in Dunedin was accepted and suitable dates for both games would be advised later on.—Received. The secretary of the Southland Football Association advised that his committee would prefer that the return match against Otago be played towards the end of August in preference to the date suggested in September by Otago. —The letter was received and the matter was deferred for a week;

The question, which was held ovei from last meeting, of contributing the travelling expenses of a local referee should one be appointed to act in the Chatham Cup final to be played at Wellington was discussed, and it was decided to inform the Referees’ Club that the committee was not in a financial position to grant assistance this year. It was suggested that the Referees’ Club approach the New Zealand Referees’ Association to take the matter up with the New Zealand Football Association with a view to arranging that the expenses of an outside referee be a first charge on the gate receipts.

An application for the regrading of D. Harborne, of Roslyn-Wakari, from First to Second Division was granted. W. Murphy was also granted a clearance from the Leith Club to RoslynWakari.

Mr A. B. Smith, a member of the committee, presented a novel ladder scheme for the displaying of the positions of the teams in the Fletcher Cup competition.—-Mr Smith was thanked for his interest in the game, and the secretary was instructed to have the ladder displayed in a shop window.
