AUSTRALIA v. ENGLAND MATCH AT EASTBOURNE LONDON, July 19. In the three-day match at Eastbourne between England and Australia, Quist and Turnbull in the Doubles defeated Hughes and Tuckey 3—6, C —4. Turnbull was the best of the four. He served and smashed with savage accuracy. The Australians generally were superior in volleying and smashing. Tuckey, England's new Davis Cup recruit, is playing much better with experience. He is serving powerfully and his ground strokes have improved. LONDON, July 20. (Received July 21, at 8 p.m.) Crawford defeated Austin, 6—2, 6—4, 3_6 ( 6_3. The game between Perry and M'Grath was abandoned on account of rain, 2—6, 6—2, 3—l. Full of confidence after defeating Perry, Crawford drove deeply and powerfully, served well, and , volleyed more often than usual. Altogether, he overshadowed the . Englishman's stylish but less virile game. Perry and M'Grath fought at a great pace. M'Grath in the first set hammered backhand drives straight down the line with remarkable accuracy, but Perry, intensifying, his boisterous belligerence, overwhelmingly won the second. DAVIS CUP GAME At Wimbledon in the Davis Cup interzone final Budge defeated Henkel, 7—5, 11—9, 6—B, 6—l. It was a rather tame encounter, Henkel playing a defensive game throughout. Budge made many errors through impatience. Rain caused a postponement of the Cramm-Allison match. FRINTON TOURNAMENT -■■: - LONDON, July 20. (Received July 21, at 8 p.m.) In the Frinton tournament tennis final Malfroy defeated Nishimura, 6—2, B—6. AUSTRALIANS' TOUR THE FINANCIAL RESULTS LONDON, July 19. Harry Hopmau, writing in the Sun on lawn tennis subjects, says: "The Australians' tour has been a financial success. The profits, without Eastbourne, where most of the seats were sold, should approach £2OOO. The New Zealand tie vielded £IOO, the French £2500, and the German £900."
