OTAGO HUNT CLUB

MEET AT NORTH TAIERI Beautiful weather, coupled with a fine run, induced a large number of followers arid spectators to attend the weekly meet Jof the Otago Hunt Club at North Taieri on Saturday over the fine properties of Messrs A. Y. Smellie, T. H. Pugh, and J. Buchan. The followers met at the Taieri aerodrome at about 3 p.m., and proceeded thence to th&-start in one of Mr Smellie's paddocks. The huntsman released the pack at approximately 3.20 p.m., and they set off at a good pace, giving plenty of tongue. The first jump, a gorse hedge, was easily negotiated by all followers. Several post and rails of fair height brought' the followers to a hawthorne hedge, which, provided some baulking at first' on the part of a few horses, but all

eventually cleared. The. followers were now in one of Mr Pugh's paddocks, where a good, solid post and rails was followed by a stiff gallop across country to a road double, where the spectators were gathered. Some excellent horsemanship and jumping was witnessed here. Miss I. Reid, who was making her reappearance at the hunt after a regrettable absence for some time, put in two beautiful jumps on Mr W. Hastie's thoroughbred gelding Three Star. The Master (Mr J. Brunton), on Heather Bloom, and the honorary whip (Mr W. Wood), on Rainbow, also impressed with almost perfectly timed jumps. Following this, a ploughed paddock on Mr Buchan's property led to several more "gorse hedges and the kill. Miss E. Greenslade is to be .congratulated on being the first lady home, thus gaining the well-contested brush. After the hunt afternoon tea was provided by Mr and Mrs Buchan. The deputy-master (Mr R. Greenslade) suitably thanked the property-owners and Mr and Mrs Buchan for their generosity. It was later announced that Mr Hastie had sent his geld-

ing Three Star to H. Anderton's stables at Wingatui' for training. Amongst those present were:—The Master (Mr J. Brunton) on Heather Bloom, the deputy master (Mr R.
