Now recognised perhaps as one of the outstanding events in the social calendar, the charity ball to be bold in the Town Hall next Tuesday evening promises to eclipse its predecessors in brilliance. With the deserving objects of the Crippled Children’s Fund and the St. Vincent de Pan! Orphanages benefiting by the proceeds, the many attractive features of this function should not fail in their combined effect to have a universal appeal. For a big and varied programme of dances Scofield’s New Collegians Band, specially augmented, has been engaged to play the latest popular numbers. The charming and spectacular ceremony of the presentation of debu-

tautes, which always arouses the interest of dancers and spectators alike, will again be an important feature of the ball. The young people who are this year making their first social how arc to be presented to Bishop Whyte. To add to the scene of gaiety and movement a bright and colourful scheme of decorations has been arranged, and this will be further heightened as the evening proceeds by the distribution of carnival novelties. From the spacious gallery of the Town Hall a comprehensive view of tlie proceedings will be afforded those unable to participate actively. Supper arrangements are in tlie hands of a capable Ladies’ Committee, and this will be served in the adjoining Concert Chamber. A special and delectable menu has been planned. To ensure dancers’ comfort and effective catering, tickets have been definitely limited to JOO couples, and so as not to be disappointed intending patrons are advised to make immediate application to the D.I.C. booking office, where tlie box plan is now open.
