Representative Matthew A. Dunn, of Pennsylvania, the only blind member of the United States House of Representatives, believes flowers are beautiful even to the sightless. Hearing another representative chide colleagues for not visiting the recently-completed botanic gardens in Washington, Mr Dunn, a pink carnation in his lapel, said:—“l have been there three or four times, and it ia the most beautiful place I have seen in my 27 years of blindness.” Judge Dumas recently made an order at the Westminster County Court, London, that a woman should pay a debt of £6 at the rate of 6d a month. It will taka her 20 years.
