Between the “ taverns ” of to-day in Massachusetts, United States, and the “saloons” of yesterday there has far stood one bulwark —the stool. Until now by law every drinker at the bar hag had to be seated during the process of imbibing. But now legislation has been passed which will permit men—but not women —to assume a vertical position at tavern bars while drinking.
