How a woman “ died ” during an operation and was brought back to life by heart massage and kept alive for 22 hours by artificial respiration was related at the inquest, at Birmingham (England) recently, on Mrs Annie Hunt, of Ward End Dr Sankey, assistant surgeon at the Queon’e Hospital, said that when Mrs Hunt’s breathing ceased the operation was stopped. Artificial respiration and direct massage of the heart were begun, and an injection made into the arm and heart. He felt the pulsation of the heart commence, at first regularly and then fairly steadily. The woman began to breathe after two hours and a-half. Respiration ceased later, but the pulse continued for 22 hours, when, despite the artificial respiration, the heart stopped beating. Death by misadventure was the verdict.
