FARM PRODUCE PRICES

TO THE EDITOR Sib —I was interested to read a letter on Mr Chamberlain’s speech on the great recovery the Homeland has made towards a sound recovery. I would like to draw readers’ attention to the position of our own country compared with 1932. In that year there was no export price for beet; it is now 235, and in some cases 23s od. Tallow was practically worthless, and now the soap works pay 30s per cwt. A farmer destroyed a hide of a beast when no killed and now a light hide is worth 10a to 20s. I looked up the price of fat stock at a sale on July 8, 1932, following are the figures:—Beef, 198.; heavy prime wethers, ios 6d to 15s; heavy prime ewes, 7s to 10s 6d; extra heavy prime lambs, 13s to 16s; runners, 16e to 555; vealers, 12s to 41s; bacouera. 34a to 51s. By lookingrat this week s paper anyone can compare prices. In the Australasian of June 15 it is stated . that Queensland has lost, 4,000,000 sheep and lambs, and it is thought thatfiy December the loss will be 10,000,000. One can easily imagine how our wool prices will rise with such a shortage of wool and how our lamb export will benefit from the misfortune of Autsralia. —I am, etc.. Farmer.
