A correspondent writes with reference to a recent court case over the ownership of a Pekingese pup ; The Otago Kennel Club dissociates itself entirely from any connection with the case, as neither of the parties concerned is connected with it. . Although last year’s Otago Kennel Club's annual show was one of the largest and best staged in Dunedin of recent years, there is no doubt that the coming show will surpass it in every respect. The great number of cups and trophies presented last year has been considerably exceeded. These trophies are being distributed in a manner which should-give general satisfaction. The winners will appreciate them not only for marking a success but for their intrinsic value, which in no case is less than 10s 6d. On the first night of the (show the club will hold its annual ball in the Victoria Hall. Already a very large number of tickets has been sold for this function. Those interested will bo pleased to learn that the musical arrangements are in the capable hands of Mr J. Himburg. One of the attractions of the show will be the children’s events on the Saturday afternoon, and every effort is being made m order that'the young people will rememl ber with keen appreciation their afternoon at the show. One of the special [ features of Saturday night’s entertainment for the general public will be a parade of all the winning dogs. I Mrs Fraser, of Milton, has purchased I from Mrs George Allan a nice Min Pom 1 bitch by Brilliant Star ex Goldbrook Gold Model. Mrs Fraser already has_ a nice little dog in her kennels, and she intends taking up breeding operations. The ribbon parade at Milton held by the Otago Kennel Club has evidently made a few of the residents dog-minded. Mr Alexander Begg, of Broad Bay, has disposed of a good coloured cocker dog pup to Mr J. Hislop, of Invercargill. The pup is a combination of the blood of ch Homespun of Ware and ch Silver King, and will be benched at the Southland Kennel Club’s show this month. . Mr Begg has a nice litter of five pups by Braeval Laddie ex Bay Bell, four being dogs. Two of the dogs are colours. A previous mating of the above pair produced some good show specimens. Mr H, Williamson, of Port Chalmers, has purchased a pleasing black cocker bitch puppy from Mr L. Smythe, Church Leigh Druson being the sire. This dog is now owned by Mrs Farquharson. Master Randell Barton is securing from Mrs F. Wall, of the Mahakj Kennels, Martinborough, a wire fox-terrier bitch puppy by Bowes Kindle (imp.) ex Mahaki Marie, by Castlecroft Snowstorm (imp.) Mr 0, Watson has disposed oChis Utter of cocker puppies with the exception of one bitch, which is being retained in the home kennels. One bitch has 'gone to Oamaru and one to Mataura. The balance found new homes in the Dunedin district. Mrs G. D, Tonka informs me that «he has purchased three black Scottish terrier bitch pupa from Mr J. P. Taucher, of the North Island. These pups are litter sisters and are sired by -that good dog Aust. gr ch Olympian Black Watch, and are from a ch Silvermero King bitch. Another pup this breeder has on order is a bitch to replace Ratanui Flora Macdonald, which met with an accident a few weeks ago. This pup will be sired by gr ch Olympian Black Watch ex ch Ratanui Las* (Aust.). Other matings in this kennel have been Ratanui Robbie Burns to Cambroo Kiltie M’Callum (ch Olympian Adair ex Ratanui Surprise), and the same stud dog to the well-known North Island brood bitch Ratanui Miona. Cambroo Jock Taucher (ch Olympian Adair. Aust.) ex' Ratanui Kimmer Adair, has been mated to Cambroo Hielan’ Lassie. Miss Leonie Tonka has had her Scottish terrier bitch, Ratanui Kimmer Adair, by ch Olympian Adair, mated to one of Mrs G, D. Tonka’s stud dogs, Ratanui Robbie Burns. .

The Australian terrier ch Reading Floss, owned by Mra Moore, of Wanganui, has whelped a litter of four puppies (three dogs and one bitch) to her kennel-mate oh Reading Chum. Reading Jewel, the property of the same owner, has whelped a litter of three dog puppies to Reading Sir Charles. All the puppies are healthy youngsters. , Mrs L. Barton t of Dunedin, haa purchased from Mr J, Marshall, of Christchurch, the Sydney Silkie bitch Mallard Flosa, Mrs Barton will receive the dog after the toy dog show in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. V, Cooke, of the Alowel Kennels, Christchurch, are advertising for sale a high-class bulldog bitch pup _by Ohau Golden Hope ex Princess Marina. The sire is an exceedingly good type of dog and won best puppy at the Welington Show and first in the open class at Greymouth. Anyone wishing to take up this breed would be well advised to take this opportunity of securing a fine wellbred bitch at reasonable price. . Subject to the approval of the New Zealand Kennel Club, the - Wellington Alsatian and Training Club and the Wellington District Cocker Spaniel Club have been granted permission to hold parades. At a meeting of the executive of the Wellington Kennel Club held last week it was decided to appoint Mr Harry Maude, of Australia, to judge air breeds at the club’s annual show in October. A puppy and novice evening will be held by the Wellington Kennel Club on Thursday next. The judges will be: Sporting, Mr 6. T. Murphy: terriers and stakes classes, Mr-A. Brown; non-sport-ing, Mr W. Barker; toys, ,Mr W. Leathern.

REARING PUPS IN WINTER. Puppies born in winter ma- be just aa healthy, organically, as those born in the spring and summer, but they do not thrive in the same way unless managed with the utmost care. / The .bitch in whelp should be given a good tonic of cod liver oil every day; her usual quiet exercise when weather permits: and all the good food that she wants. For whelping she must have the best possible quarters—a big kennel, dry and ventilated. In cold weather some heating is necessary, A large, covered sleeping box should be provided, with plenty of bedding. A stone hot water battle, not too hot, can be kept beneath the straw or shavings. Rickets are always a danger to winter pups. Good food, including raw meat and boiled fish and cod liver oil given daily, will prove a safeguard. THE CLUE. He dashed into the police station at midnight, explaining that his wife had been missing since 8 o’clock that morning, and asking that search be made for her. "Her description,” eaid the sergeant. “ Height? ” - “I—l don’t know! “Weight?" The husband shook his head vaguely. “ Colour of eyes? " “ Er—average, I expect.” “ Do you know how she was dressed? “ I expect she wore her coat and hat. She took the dog with her.” “What kind of dog?” “ Brindle bull terrier, weight I4Jlb, four dark blotches on his body, shading from grey to white. Round, blackish spot over the left eye, white stub tail, three white legs and right front leg brindle, all but the toes. A small nick in the left ear, a silver link collar, with ” “That’ll do!” gasped the sergeant. “Well find the dog! ”
