CAT FIGHTS WITH SNAKE

Battle between a Persian cat and ■ a rattlesnake in a garden of the exclusive Claremont district of Berkeley, San Francisco, ended in victory for the house pet and the disappearance of the sorely wounded rattler in the near-by hills. From a window of her home Mrs E. Juda witnessed the conflict and called for Berkeley police to aid Bunker Hill, the cat, but Bunker Hill in a savage attack had routed the snake before the Police reached the scene of the conflict. Mrs Juda’s attention was attracted by the sight of the Persian leaping in the air ami clawing desperately as it descended. Then she saw the snake, opened the window, heard its rattle, saw it coil and vainly attempt to strike the cat, each time defeated by a vicious clawing. Patrolman Norman Harsted arrived and drew his revolver. Mrs Juda, armed with a broom, entered the garden with him to help'the cat. But by this time the rout was complete.
