CHARITY BALL

The forthcoming Charity Ball will be the sixth held in Dunedin. and the energy and enthusiasm shown in the preparations, to which the outstanding success of previous functions can be attributed, is more than maintained. Realising the worthiness of its appeal, the Ball Committee has decided this year to allocate part of the proceeds to the New Zealand Crippled Childrens' Society, whilst the St. Vincent de Paul Orphanage and the Waverlcy Boys' Home will also benefit. Calling for support by the worthy character of its purpose the many attractive features of this function should not fail in their combined effect to have a universal appeal. For a big and varied programme of dances Scofield's New Collegians' Band has been engaged to play the latest popular dance numbers. The spacious Town Hall lends itself admirably to an occasion such as this, and a spectacular feature of the ball, the presentation of debutantes to Bishop Whyte could hardly be held in more suitable surroundings. The important item of supper is receiving the detailed attention of an earnest band of lady workers, who have undertaken the additional work of including cold meats in an already varied and generous menu. To ensure dancing comfort and efficient catering the tickets have been strictly limited to 400. and so as not to be disappointed intending patrons are advised to make immediate application to the D.I.C. booking office.
