A resolution was moved at the annual conference of the Scottish Bankers* Association in Glasgow deploring the fact that a large number of bank employees could not reach the minimum salary at which the banks would permit them to marry until they were upwards of 30 years of age. Mr Percy Hurray (Glasgow) said it was a social offence to prevent a man from marrying until he had reached the age of 33. Th* banks, he said, placed great store of the personal appearance of their employees. In one bank the staff wera requested to wear bowler hats and stif white collars, but they could not maintain on a low salary the same degree of respectability that they maintained in a state of celibacy. The resolution was carried unanimously.
