AN ASTONISHING STORY
ALLEGED ATTACK IN CAR CHALLENGE TO FIGHT ACCEPTED (Peb United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 27. The allegation that he was attacked by a man with a lead pipe while driving a car in jNgahauranga Gorge, Wellington, tbis morning, was made by a Normanby man, Allan Kennedy, to-night. Mr Kennedy said that on his way to- Thorndon station to ioin the Taranaki express he was overtaken by a luxurious car, the driver of which offered him a lift. He admired the car and was permitted to drive it through the gorge. He said'that when returning through the gorge he saw in a mirror his companion raise his hand with a. weapon and strike. Kennedy ducked and the blow struck him on the side of the head. A struggle ensued and several blows were struck. Then Kennedy jumped out of the car. He offered to fight his assailant and the challenge was accepted. Kennedy then struck the man on the jaw, jumped into the car and drove to Johnsonville where he caught the express. He said the police at Palmerston North had been informed.
