SALMON KILLED BY EELS
Salmon in the Scottish streams are being attacked and killed by eels. The eels invariably win the fierce fights that have been observed.
The Scottish Salmon Anglng Federation, alarmed at the harm that is being done to the salmon fishing industry,. i s asking Parliament to revive the fishing laws so that salmon can be protected. " It is a shocking sight," says the federation, " to see a crowd of salmon, because of dykes and dams, drifting into slacker waters and succumbing to the horrible assault of eels." The salmon fishing rights on some of the rivers are valued at more than £50,000.
