The Home Science Extension Bureau kindly replies: (1) cups brown flour, i cup white flour, £ teaspoon salt, 4 teaspoonfuls baking powder, 3oz fat (cut in), 2 tablespoonfuls sugar. Mix with | cup milk. Roll the dough to half-inch thickness and bake in two pieces. Have prepared some apples stewed with a little sugar and" make a sandwich with the cooked pastry and the apples, garnishing the top of the sandwich with extra fruit. Serve hot with cream. (2) We know of nobody in New Zealand who could do such work. (S') Sprinkle with French chalk or Fuller’s earth or talcum powder, and put in the sunshine, or else, if the material is strong enough, sponge with warm water and ammonia and expose to the air.
