HAMPDEN SCHOOL PROPERTY

TO THE EDITOB Sir, —It is time that someone drew the attention of those in authority to the way in which the Returned Soldiers' Dofence Rifle Club in Hampden has assumed full control of the Education Board's gymnasium and school piano. On the first occasion the school piano was lent for a social function with the consent of every member of the School Committee. Proving popular, the piano was commandeered foi further use without all the members of the School Committee being interviewed. I was an eye-witness to the removal of the piano from the gymnasium to school and noticed with regret that such removals meant the sure destruction of the piano through its being wheeled over a rough asphalt path. Prior to tins season school children were permitted in the gymnasium for recreation in the wet weather, but the Rifle Club finds its necessary to hold a fortnightly dance and raffles as a draw card to try and make good its sadly depleted membership.—l am, etc., Hampden, June 26. Parent. [The onus of protecting the school property rests on the School Committee, and it is reasonable to assume that the furniture will not be used without authority.— Ed., O.D.T.]
