TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel. Supertax Supertax won In very convincing style at Auckland, and completely outclassed the opposition at the business end of his . race. It is predicted that more success will come, his way. For and Against The committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club is not in favour of supporting the remit in regard to the grading of drivers. It is in favour of supporting the discussion on the question of relicensing of bookmarkers. A Temporary Trouble Each of the three Canterbury trotting clubs showed a loss over the season just concluding. They are, however, financially well placed to carry on, and hold no anxiety about the future. Pocketed The unluckiest horse on the first day at Epsom was King's Warrior, who finished third in the last event. He was hardily placed on the rails until several horses went round him, and that spelt trouble in the shape of a pocket. King's Warrior had to be pulled right back and then come round the field, so that his third placing was an outstanding performance. In August The West Australian Trotting Association will hold its interdominion championship meeting at Perth in August. Arrangements have been completed for Walla Walla to take part in the special races, and as New Zealand owners will be guaranteed £IOO towards expenses it is probable that a horse or two may journey from the Dominion to participate in the carnival, which will extend over three days. A Conference At the annual conference of Southland trotting clubs at Invercargill on Saturday last, when the four trotting clubs were represented, a resolution was passed lecommending to all Southland clubs that they adopt the following totalisator method of investment:—Win machine (75 per cent, and 25 per cent.) and place machine (three dividends of equal amounts). In this connection it was left in; the hands of club delegates to bring this system before the notice of members at the annual New Zealand Trotting Conference for favourable consideration. Strength to Stable According to an Australian writer, J. J. Kennerley is likely to have his team strengthened by the inclusion of a very promising mare named Evicus. During the past two months Evicus has registered a series of performances that have far eclipsed any that have been recorded by any other horse in Tasmania in such a brief period. Her consistency has been remarkable, and in all her races she has not made a mistake. In six races at Elphin (Tasmania) ,she has registered two

wins, two seconds and two thirds, and has been at home over all distances. She is by Globe Derby. The Adams Cup The Adams Cup event was a memorable contest, a beautiful race with a wonderful finish. Kewpie's Triumph seemed to be doing it nicely in the middle of the course half a furlong from home when Maidens drove Great Logan through on the rails and 50 yards from the post he was a good half-length in front. Then Kewpie's Triumph and later Chancellor came again and they were separated by heads at the post. From this it may be assumed (say 9 "Early Bird") that Kewpie's Triumph's driver might have been caught napping, and perhaps that was the case, for both Kewpie's Triumph and the third horse were fast overhauling the winner at the box. However, Great Logan won on his merits, and he was cleverly driven by his owner. Kewpie's Trhimph gave his best showing to date, and Chancellor, who had his first race for some time, will not be long in winning now. For Adelaide It is highly probable that Indianapolis will go to South Australia next season to compete in the interdominion championships that will be held under the jurisdiction of the South Australia Trottiug Club. Mr G. J. Barton may send another member of his team with the champion. While in the Commonwealth early in the New Year, Mr Barton promised to send Indianapolis to Australia, so the big trotting meeting at Adelaide will provide a splendid opportunity for Indianapolis to measure strides with the best horses in that country. The course at Adelaide is four furlongs in circumference, and the meetings are held in the evening. Just how Indianapolis will handle a small track remains to be seen. Prince Derby, who stood 17 hands, was one of the cleverest horses on a small track in the country, so there is no reason why Indianapolis should not be able to handle a small circuit. An Equine Alexander Walla Walla is the wonder horse of Australia, and in turn he has delighted the crowds of Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, . Tasmania and New Zealand by his brilliant bursts of speed. Walla Walla's owner, Mr L. Martin, is in search of fresh worlds to conauer, and his next visit will be to Perth, where his horse is set to meet the champions of the State at the end of August and the beginning of September. The arrangement is for three match races over a mile. Walla Walla's best time for a mile is. 2min 2 2-ssec, in a race against time, while in New Zealand, from a standing start, he defeated Harold Logan and other cracks in 2rain 4 l-ssec, and in the Flying Mile, at Harold Park, he defeated a good field in 2min Csec from 84yds behind. This is regarded as his greatest performance. It was a sensational effort, and stamped Walla Walla as the greatest pacer ever seen on Australian tracks. Walla Walla mixes stud duties with his track trials as no other horse has ever done, and, though he is rising 13 years, and can hardly be expected to succeed in handicap races, he still takes a lot of beating in free-for-all events. OTAGO HUNT CLUB Weather permitting, the Otago Hunt Club will hold its weekly meet at Highcliff to-morrjnv afternoon, over the properties of Messrs J. and D. J. Robertson, E. Hellyer, T. Johnston and G. Donaldson, who have kindly placed their properties at the club's disposal. Spectators who wish to witness the hunt are advised to go up to the Soldiers' Memorial, where a good view may be obtained. Followers will meet at the kennels at 2 p.m. sharp, and the throw-off will take place at 3 p.m. in Mr J, Robertson's property, which is situated on Tomahawk road.
