BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
DUNEDIN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Executive Committee of the Bible in Schools League (Dunedin branch) met at First Church on Wednesday, when Sir James Allen presided over an attendance of IG. Several new members, including representatives of women's organisations, were welcomed. The following were elected the officers for 1935-36: —President, Sir James Allen, M.L.C.; chairman of executive, Dr Merrington; vice-chairman of executive, Dean Cruikshank; secretary, Mr James Taylor; treasurer, Mr J. B. Waters; membership secretary, Mr J. B. Grant. The New Zealand organising secretary, the Rev. E. O. Blamires, was present, and gave a report of recent developments. Satisfaction was expressed at. the support given to the league, and thanks to local ministers and others for their co-operation. Special reference was made to the long service of Mr J. B. Waters, who, while relinquishing the office of secretary, will continue an active official and member of the executive.
It was decided to support a proposal to form the present Dominion Executive of 60 members into a Dominion Council, meeting regularly, and elect a smaller executive of 20 members as a Standing Committee. An Educational Committee consisting of the chairman and the vice-chairman of the executive, the secretary, Misses F. M. Allan and I. Fraser was set up, with Dr Merrington as convener. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Rev. E. O. Blamires on the motion of Dr Merrington for his inspirational work in Otago and South Canterbury.
