The keeper of archives at Tomsk, Siberia, solved the problem of indexing 500.000 uncatalogued documents by selling them as waste paper. Soon afterwards village Soviet collective farm managers and others were astonished to receive letters of instruction on one side of which were valuable historical data, some dating from the seventeenth century. The keeper of the archives is now looking for a new post.
