MONSTER SHIPS
LORD RUNCIMAN'S VIEWS (From Our Own Correspondent.) (By Am Mail) LONDON, June 1. Lord Runeinian, head of the Anchor Line of steamers, does not approve of monster ships like the Queen Maty and the Normandie. In his opinion, the Queen Mary ought to have been divided into three Blue Riband competition, he said, at a meeting of the Anchor Line, in Scotland, was no good to anybody— a waste ot capital, which bred unemployment. First, they had to pay too much for it, and •then it was not long before they saw it lying in tatters. " There is the Queen Mary," continued Lord Runciman, " and we are going to have another. Well. God save us from these ideas. We do not want a Queen Mary. Lam risking something by making that statement. Why not divide the Queen Mary into three divisions, or three ships, and you will get far more to begin with in the matter of construction and far more than 50 times in profit in sailing them. We are trying to make a living for ourselves, not to make bine ribands. Extravagance of any kind will not be tolerated." His company, he said, had decided to build two or more motor ships, and he threw out a hint that the directors were keen to place these orders on Clydeside.
