TRAIN ESCAPES DISASTER
BOULDER STRIKES COWCATCHER DRIVER'S PROMPT ACTION (Per United Press Association) TAUMARUNUI, June 27. A slip occurred on the main truuk above Kopaki at 11 o'clock to-day, the train from Te Kuiti pulling up just as it came to it. A huge boulder fell in front of the engine and broke the cowcatcher. The train shunted back to Puketutu, where it remained for two hours while the line was cleared, arriving at Taumaiunui at 3.35 p.m. instead of 1 p.m. Passengers express appreciation of the driver's prompt action in pulling the train up in time to avert it smashing into the debris.
