WELLINGTON, June 27.
At the end of June last year the Government granted a subsidy of 2s Cd a ton to manufacturers of fertiliser, conditional on the selling price of superphosphates not exceeding £4 a ton. The subsidy expires on Saturday next, and those interested in the fertiliser business are negotiating with the Minister of Agriculture regarding a renewal of the subsidy. The Government's decision will probably be announced at the end of the week. Patrick Thomas Syron, driver of the car which struck Norman Alexander Anderson at the corner of Willis and Willeston streets on May 6, Anderson suffering injuries from which he died in hospital the following day, pleaded not guilty to a charge of reckless driving and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The charge of failing to stop after the accident to which Syron pleaded not guilty was adjourned until the major charge was disposed of. TIMARU, June 27. D'Arcv Walter Shaw, who shot his father, Walter Shaw, at Pleasant Valley, on May 10, is still under observation in a mental institution and the police are obliged to secure weekly remands on the murder charge. It is not known when the case will come up for hearing.
