FIRES
THREE COTTAGES DESTROYED (Peb United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. Three five-rooined cottages in Brighton street, Kaikoura, were destroyed by-fire at 3 o'clock this morning. The fire started in the kitchen of the middle cottage and spread to those on either side. The houses were occupied by J. Nicholson, V. Wright, and Mrs C. A. Cooke. Mrs Cooke's cottage was the property of the J. Prince estate. Some of Mrs Cooke's furniture was saved, but in the other two cottages everything was burned. A CHIMNEY FIRE At 4.55 p.m. yesterday the City Fire Brigade was called out to a chimney fire at 17 Preston crescent.
