ST. MARY'S PARISH
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Mary's, Mornington, was held on Wednesday evening last, when a good gathering was present. The vicar (the Rev. F. Vivian Fisher) presided. In his report the vicar made a survey of the parochial activities, all of which, lie said, were functioning well. There was the small sum of £2 still required for the mission quota, but it was hoped that that would be forthcoming before the mission year closed. The number of communicants for the year was greater than that for many years, with the exception of the jubilee year. This was gratifying, but the general congregations should have been greater than they had been. The morning attendances had improved, but the evening services had not shown the same increase. He referred to the passing of some of the oldest parishioners, namely Mrs E T. Clarice, Mrs S. P. Martyn and Mr Hillier, and the meeting stood in respect to their memory. The vicar appealed for more voices in the choir. He moved a comprehensive vote of thanks to all who had worked so well for the church as a whole and for the parish in particular. The church warden's report showed the parish finances to be practically the same as last year, and Mr S. P. Mi rams expressed satisfaction that, in spite of difficult times, the parish had held its own. They were very grateful to the Ladies' Guild, the G.F.S.,' tin. queen carnival workers, Mrs Haig, the penny clock organised by Mr Holderness, and to all who had helped to bring about this satisfactory result. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Church wardens, Messrs S. P Minims and C. E. Birt; vestry—Mesdames Brickell and J. Haig, Messrs Harbour, Whitticase, Tipping, Boyd, Bates, Guy, Haig, Holderness, Quigley, Tombs and Woods; auditor, Mr H. D. Tennent; parochial nominators —Messrs Birt, Mirams, Boyd and Digby-Smith; assistant sidesmen—Messrs L. and D. M'Farlane, L. Skinner, H. Otway, H. Campbell, H. Palmer, IV. Hurley, A. M'Quarrie and P. Fort. After a long discussion it was decided to hold the evening services during the period of summer time at 7 o'clock. This would be an experiment for one year and would be reviewed at the next annual meeting.
