THERMAL ACTIVITY
GEYSERS IN FULL PLAY RELATION TO LAKE LEVEL. (Per United Press Association) ROTORUA, June 26. The thermal springe arid geysers around the shores of Lake Rotorua at present are very active, and the Pohutu geyser, which was quiescent during the summer months, has been giving an almost continuous display for the past three weeks. The increase in activity has followed upon a marked rise in the levels of the lake as the result of heavy rain during the month, and despite the opinion of Government experts to the contrary, it is considered this supports the opinion of old residents of the district that an increase in thermal activity always follows a rise in the level of the lake. Considerable agitation has occurred here to persuade the Government to maintain Lake Rotorua at a higher level by regulating the outflow through the Ohau channel into Lake Rotoiti, but as a result of the report of the experts that there is no connection between the lake level and the extent of thermal activity nothing has been done.
