SECONDARY SCHOOLS' GAME

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS DEFEAT M'GLASHAN COLLEGE.

The annual match between Christian Brothers High School and John M'Glashan College was played on Tahuna Park yesterday afternoon, a fast, bright game resulting in a win for the former team by 12 points to 9. In the first half College had all the better of the game, but after the change-over the superior weight ot the School pack told, and the College team was on the defensive for the greater part of the spell. The teams were as follows: —

John M'Glashan College.—Backs— M'lntosh, Neill, Campbell, M'Caig, T. Stevenson, T. Fraser, Carson; forwards — Thomson, Cameron, F. Edgar, D. Fraser, R. Edgar, M'lnnes. Cairney, Foord. Christian Brothers High School.Backs —Dougan, Meenan, Kirby, Holloway, Josephs, T. Wallace, Rodden; forwards—E. Wallace, J. George, E. George, O'Driscoll, Barry, Rose, Miles, Jenkins.

School kicked off, and the College fori ward, packing well, rushed play to halfway. From a scrum T. Fraser made a 1 dash for the line, but was thrown out at the corner. O'Driscoll broke away with the ball at his toes, and with J. George transferred play almost to halfway, but the College pack rallied, and pressed back to the School twenty-five, where T. Fraser picked up from a scramble and jinked his way through the defence to score wide out. The kick at goal missed. Barry was seen at the head of a rush by the School forwards, which penetrated deep into College territory. He picked up and sent out to O'Driscoll, who was nearly over, but a long kick downfield put College on the attack, and for the next few minutes play was centred inside the School twenty-five. Kirby cut into a movement by the College backs to put in a good run to halfway, and, the. forwards coming into the picture, paved the way for Meenan to equalise the scores. Barry missed with the kick. Hardly had the ball come into play than a School forward kicked right into the hands of T. Fraser, who scored another good try, but failed to add the extra points. College kept up the pressure, and the attack was in School s end of the field when the spell ended with the scores o—3 in favour of College Immediately on the commencement of the second spell, the School forwards launched a determined sortie, which drove right down to the College line. The M'Glashan pack men cleared, and the ball went to the backs, Neill putting his side on attack with a run to halfway. Campbell and Cairney led the forwards almost to the line, but T. Wallace lifted the pressure by finding the line well down the field. From a scramble near the College twenty-five, Josephs sent to Holloway to Kirby, who scored a dashing try in a handy position. The kick at goal was unsuccessful. Play was even until E. Wallace got almost to the College line with a clever piece of solo dribbling. Play swung back to the twenty-five, and again the Josephs-Kirby-Holloway combination functioned neatly, and the last-named man went over. Fraser was seen in another good eolo run, but he was unmipportea. and School was again on the attack. The pack pressed solidly on to the College line, and from a scramble B. Wallace dived over. School kept up the attack in the College twenty-five, but the College backs neatly turned defence into attack, and joined in a bout of passing that returned play to halfway. Another determined sprint by T. Fraser nearly resulted in a score, but he was brought down just as he was about to ground the ball. Immediately afterwards he kicked a good goal from a penalty, and the game ended with the scores: Christian Brothers High School .. 12 John M'Glashan College » Mr A Fleury was the referee. it« lead.
